Why a spreadsheet inside an application
There is a pattern we see on almost every project. A company has a proper system, and next to it, a spreadsheet that people actually use for one particular job. Bulk price updates. Stock counts. Production planning. Anything where you need to see forty rows at once and edit them quickly.
The usual advice is to move that work into the system. The usual result is that people export to Excel anyway, because entering forty rows through a form is slow and they can see nothing while they do it.
A data grid solves the actual problem rather than arguing with it. Users get the keyboard shortcuts, copy and paste, and multi-row editing they expect from a spreadsheet, but the data goes straight into the application. No export, no reimport, no version sitting on someone’s laptop.
Where we use it
Typical cases are bulk data entry screens, price and cost maintenance, planning boards, and any interface where a user needs to compare many records at once instead of opening them one at a time.
