Days to weeks<\/strong>, depending on your paperwork.<\/p>\n Template approval.<\/strong> Every proactive message needs approving before first use, and first submissions get rejected more often than people expect.<\/p>\n Both can run in parallel with other work.<\/strong> Start them first, and the rest of the project fits around them.<\/p>\n Leaving either to the end is the most common cause of a missed launch date.<\/strong><\/p>\n Weeks 1\u20132: paperwork and decisions<\/strong><\/p>\n Start business verification. Day one.<\/strong><\/p>\n Decide what you will actually send. Order updates? Reminders? Support only?<\/p>\n Choose a provider.<\/p>\n Find a phone number not already registered on WhatsApp.<\/p>\n Weeks 2\u20133: data<\/strong><\/p>\n Clean your phone numbers.<\/strong> Country code, no spaces or punctuation. This decides whether anything works<\/strong>, and it is entirely within your control.<\/p>\n Add consent fields to your customer records \u2014 separate flags for utility and marketing.<\/p>\n Weeks 3\u20134: templates<\/strong><\/p>\n Write them as utility messages, not marketing.<\/p>\n Submit early. One message type first.<\/p>\n Log every send on the customer record.<\/p>\n Week 6: test and launch<\/strong><\/p>\n Test with real orders, including awkward ones.<\/p>\n Go live with one message type.<\/p>\n Watch the quality rating from day one.<\/strong><\/p>\n FIGURE 1: THE SEQUENCE<\/p>\n Verification first<\/p>\n Clean phone numbers<\/p>\n Templates early<\/p>\n Launch narrow<\/p>\n Cleaning phone numbers is the single most underestimated task.<\/strong><\/p>\n Most business systems hold them inconsistently \u2014 some with country codes, some without, some with spaces, brackets or dashes, some with a leading zero.<\/p>\n WhatsApp needs a specific format.<\/strong> Numbers that do not match fail to send, often quietly.<\/p>\n Three things to do:<\/strong><\/p>\n Normalise what you have.<\/strong> Every number, country code included, no punctuation.<\/p>\n Validate at entry.<\/strong> Stop new bad ones being created.<\/p>\n Make send failures visible.<\/strong> A failed send because of a bad number should surface, not disappear.<\/p>\n Do this before building anything else.<\/strong> A perfect integration on top of messy phone data does not work.<\/p>\n Not a policy document \u2014 a field on the record.<\/strong><\/p>\n Separate flags<\/strong> for utility and marketing. Somebody who agreed to order updates has not agreed to promotions.<\/p>\n Checked at every individual send<\/strong>, not at the campaign level.<\/p>\n Opt-out handled automatically.<\/strong> A customer replying “stop” updates the record, and every system respects it immediately.<\/p>\n If opt-out is manual, it will be missed<\/strong> \u2014 and that is how quality ratings fall without anyone meaning it.<\/p>\n Order confirmation is the usual choice.<\/strong> High value, clearly wanted, clearly utility, and easy to verify.<\/p>\n Why not launch everything at once:<\/strong><\/p>\n You find out whether your phone data is clean before it affects five message types.<\/p>\n You build a quality rating on messages people want.<\/p>\n One thing going wrong is a small problem.<\/p>\n Add the next type when the first is stable.<\/strong> Two weeks apart is a reasonable rhythm.<\/p>\n FIGURE 2: WHERE PROJECTS GET STUCK<\/p>\n Verification started late<\/p>\n Phone numbers not cleaned<\/p>\n Templates written as marketing<\/p>\n Launching everything at once<\/p>\n Take a baseline before you send anything.<\/strong><\/p>\n Current “where is my order” enquiry volume. Current support response time.<\/p>\n Without these you cannot tell whether it worked.<\/strong><\/p>\n Then watch weekly:<\/strong><\/p>\n Quality rating.<\/strong> The number that warns you before you lose access.<\/p>\n Blocks and reports.<\/strong> Rising means you are sending things people do not want.<\/p>\n Delivery failures.<\/strong> Usually a phone data problem you can fix.<\/p>\n And monthly:<\/strong> support enquiries avoided, no-shows reduced, response times.<\/p>\n Three roles, and they can be the same person in a small company \u2014 but name them.<\/strong><\/p>\n Who watches the quality rating.<\/strong> Weekly, five minutes.<\/p>\n Who answers messages.<\/strong> With defined hours, stated publicly.<\/p>\n Who owns the technical side.<\/strong> Templates, integration, failures.<\/p>\n Unowned messaging programmes drift.<\/strong> Somebody sends more than they should, nobody notices the rating falling, and access gets restricted.<\/p>\n Messaging your existing customer list.<\/strong> Having somebody’s number is not consent. This is the fastest way to damage your rating.<\/strong><\/p>\n Starting with promotion.<\/strong> Build the rating on utility first.<\/p>\n No route to a person.<\/strong> Especially if you deploy a bot.<\/p>\n Unclear hours.<\/strong> Customers expecting replies at midnight.<\/p>\n Volume without capacity.<\/strong> Opening the channel and not staffing it.<\/p>\n Nobody watching the rating.<\/strong> The warning goes unheard until access is restricted.<\/p>\n FIGURE 3: A LAUNCH THAT WORKS<\/p>\n Working<\/p>\n Struggling<\/p>\n Three layers<\/strong>, and companies routinely budget for one.<\/p>\n Meta’s charges<\/strong>, per conversation or message, varying by category and country.<\/p>\n Your provider’s fee<\/strong>, structured differently by provider.<\/p>\n Your integration work<\/strong>, if you connect it to your systems.<\/p>\n Get current pricing from your provider.<\/strong> It has changed more than once, and any article’s figures go stale.<\/p>\n And budget the data cleaning.<\/strong> It is real work and it is usually the largest hidden cost.<\/p>\n Weeks 1\u20133.<\/strong> Verification, provider, number, phone data cleaned. Mostly waiting and data work.<\/p>\n Week 4.<\/strong> Templates written and submitted. Expect a rejection.<\/p>\n Week 5.<\/strong> Integration built for one message type. Tested with real orders.<\/p>\n Week 6.<\/strong> Live with order confirmations.
