The shop has its own product list. Stock is synced across on a schedule. Orders are exported and imported. Somewhere there is a connector that somebody has to keep alive, and when it fails, customers buy things you do not have.<\/p>\n
Odoo eCommerce is not connected to your business. You edit the live page and publish when ready.<\/p>\n What it does well:<\/strong> brand pages, service descriptions, contact forms that create leads directly in CRM, blog posts, and a shop that shares your real data.<\/p>\n What it does not do:<\/strong> compete with a dedicated design tool for a highly bespoke marketing site. If you need pixel-level control over an unusual design, you may want a developer or a different tool for the marketing pages.<\/p>\n Where it wins decisively:<\/strong> anything that needs live business data. Product availability, customer portals, order tracking, quotation approval.<\/p>\n A product appears online when you mark it Published<\/strong>.<\/p>\n For each one you need:<\/p>\n Product variants<\/strong> handle size, colour and similar options. One product, several variants, each with its own stock and optionally its own price adjustment.<\/p>\n Organise by how customers search, not by how your business is structured internally.<\/p>\n Your accounting product categories and your website categories are different things and should be. Odoo lets them be different \u2014 use that.<\/p>\n Decide what happens when stock runs out:<\/p>\n Hide the product.<\/strong> Cleanest for items you rarely restock.<\/p>\n Show as out of stock.<\/strong> Honest, and keeps the page live for search engines.<\/p>\n Allow ordering anyway.<\/strong> For made-to-order or drop-shipped goods.<\/p>\n Whichever you pick, the availability shown is your real<\/strong> stock, because it is the same record the warehouse works from.<\/p>\n Odoo supports the major providers, and setup is mostly entering API credentials.<\/p>\n Always test in test mode<\/strong> first, then run one real transaction with a small amount before going live. Payment configuration is the part of an e-commerce launch most likely to have a quiet problem.<\/p>\n Set up your shipping options with their costs. Options include fixed price, price based on rules like weight or order value, or live rates from a carrier’s API.<\/p>\n Free shipping above a threshold<\/strong> is easy to configure and reliably increases average order value.<\/p>\n Odoo’s default checkout works. Before launching, walk through it yourself as a customer, on a phone, and count the steps.<\/p>\n Every extra field is a chance for someone to give up. Ask for what you genuinely need to fulfil and invoice the order, and nothing more.<\/p>\n This is the feature businesses underuse, and it is often more valuable than the shop itself.<\/p>\n Customers can log in and see their quotations, orders, delivery status, invoices and payment history. They can accept a quotation and pay online.<\/p>\n For a B2B business, the portal often saves more time than the shop makes in sales. Every “where is my order” email it prevents is time back.<\/p>\n Odoo has SEO tools built in \u2014 page titles, meta descriptions, alt text on images, clean URLs, sitemap generation and Google Analytics integration.<\/p>\n The tools are fine. The content is your job.<\/p>\n Product descriptions copied from a supplier’s catalogue appear on a hundred other sites and will not rank. Write your own, even briefly. It is the highest-return work in the whole project and the one most often skipped.<\/p>\n Follow the chain, because it explains the value.<\/p>\n The customer checks out and pays. Odoo creates a sales order<\/strong>, already confirmed and paid. A delivery<\/strong> appears in the warehouse list. The team picks and ships. Stock drops and, with automatic valuation, the accounting entry posts. The invoice<\/strong> is created and sent.<\/p>\n Nobody typed anything. Do one real transaction.<\/p>\n Checkout with too many fields.<\/strong> Every field costs you orders.<\/p>\n Shop launched with wrong stock.<\/strong> If your Odoo stock is inaccurate, your website now broadcasts that inaccuracy to customers. Fix inventory before you launch the shop.<\/p>\n Portal not enabled.<\/strong> Free value, sitting switched off.<\/p>\n Starting with a small catalogue is deliberate.
